biography

Leslie Matthews is an Adelaide based contemporary jeweller and object maker whose work explores the intimacy of scale and intensity of contrasting textural forms, to express the emotive complexity of the inner narrative and outer surrounds. Leslie has regularly exhibited in solo and group shows in Australia and abroad for the last 28 years.

Leslie is currently working from her studio in the Adelaide CBD and preparing for an upcoming solo exhibition in Melbourne.
"The jewellery and objects I create focus on concepts of abstraction and impermanence, contrast and shadows.
The action of repetition, processes of making and the rhythms of my body are evident in the work I make.
I endeavour to articulate an intensity of expression using delicate patterns, textures, contrasting scale and materiality".
